THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM
Baptism is the first and the most important of the three Sacraments of Initiation (the others being Confirmation and Holy Communion). The word itself comes from the Greek noun báptisma, which means 'washing'. Indeed, through Baptism our Original Sin is washed away and we become adopted as God's children and member of the Body of Christ — the Church. It is indeed though this sacrament that we receive the gift of salvation that Our Lord Jesus has won for for us on the Cross though his death and Resurrection.
The best way to start preparing for your child’s Baptism is to attend Mass each Sunday as a family. Yes, we can feel self-conscious if the little ones cry or are disruptive, but please try not find this as a reason to stay away. People will understand. If it has been a while since you last attended Mass, please do not be afraid. There is some useful information on our website to help you to come back to church.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I go about booking a baptism?
Please speak to the parish priest after Mass, fill out the Baptism Request Form and return it to the priests who will then contact you to arrange a date for the baptism of your child, and arrange to meet you as part of the baptismal preparation meeting.
How many godparents do I need?
Each child to be baptised must have at least one godparent. It is, however, normal for them to have two - one godfather and one godmother. Each godparent should be over 16 years old and MUST be a baptised Catholic who has received the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion. It is also important that the godparents practice their Catholic faith and they are REQUIRED to submit a copy of their Baptism Certificate to ensure they are baptised members of the Catholic Church.
How do godparents get a copy of their Baptism Certificate?
Please contact the parish where you have been baptised and they will be able to issue you a copy of the certificate. Baptism Certificates can be then handed in by the godparents themselves or, if they are unable to attend, by the parents at the pre-baptism meeting.
